If you worked on a temporary basis as a paid intern or a contractor and you were invited to a team building activity like a group ice cream party, would you go? I think I would go if I was invited. My better half thinks it would be better to decline because your company or organization is paying you to work, not to socialize -- even if you are invited.
I think team building is an important activity and is beneficial for everyone to participate.
